Local Wolves is a magazine rooted in providing up-and-coming artists a platform. The magazine's masthead is simple and sophisticated, with an understated crescent moon replacing the letter "C" in the word "Local."
For the design strategy of the magazine covers, it was important to shine a professional yet still youthful light on the artists featured on the magazine covers. This was achieved by choosing stunning portraits of the artists and adding a playful gradient to the images.
Conan Gray, the magazine's cover star is a young singer/songwriter who prides himself on being vulnerable; he got his start on YouTube, which adds a layer of homemade-ness to his artistry. I wanted to ensure his featured spread felt the same way his music feels. This was achieved through the use of collage aspects and pieced-together typography. The torn edges peeking through the flat images visually symbolize his multi-layered and perfectly imperfect style. The pieced-together typography represents the diaristic qualities that a lot of singer/songwriters have within their music.
